But wait, what does an RBT actually do?

Here is a run down of what a day in the life of an RBT looks like:

  • Review each child’s goals and progress (created by a supervising BCBA) and gather materials for a session.

  • Meet your kiddo and their caregivers, chat briefly, and start with a fun activity to build comfort and trust.

  • You start strategically playing with the child to practice their goals. Every activity is naturalistic and child‑directed: hide‑and‑seek to practice communication, snack time to teach requests, block stacking to encourage social interaction & turn‑taking.

  • When a behavior pops up, you follow the BCBA’s chosen techniques, tailored to that child. For example, you may gently redirect by prompting an alternative behavior, such as teaching a child to request help instead of using a tantrum, and reinforce when they try again.

  • Throughout, you’re accurately capturing real‑time data such as frequency counts, antecedent‑behavior‑consequence notes, and progress on specific goals to help the BCBA track trends and adjust techniques as needed. Don’t worry, we will show you how!

  • After your session, you take notes, reflect on what went well or what was tricky, and consult with your supervisor to plan for the next time.

That sounds great, but I don’t think I am qualified…

The only requirements to become an RBT is a high school diploma, clean background check, a willingness to learn, and a love for kids! We provide comprehensive, hands-on training before you ever work one-on-one with a child. You’ll be guided step-by-step by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), ensuring you learn directly from experienced professionals who are passionate about what they do.

As an RBT, you'll gain invaluable insight into how children learn and grow, explore diverse family experiences, and develop professional skills in healthcare, education, and behavioral support. It’s a hands-on role that’s perfect for anyone passionate about psychology, education, special needs, social work, or simply making a difference.

Whether you plan to grow within the ABA field or use this as a stepping stone into related careers, the skills you gain as an RBT are both meaningful and marketable.

We also offer part-time opportunities—perfect for students who want to gain experience while pursuing a degree. If your afternoons are free and your passion is helping others, we’re here for you!
